Let me start by saying I am not on the Keto diet, but my husband is. While I don't particularly care for diets, I do enjoy a good carb reduction every once in a while.
My overall nutrition goal is to maintain a healthy balance of all the foods I enjoy eating (and cooking), while making sure the ingredients are as responsibly sourced and clean as possible.
This recipe was so delicious and filling I didn't even miss the carbs for one second. We used organic grass-fed beef and Canadian bacon (both from Whole Foods), American cheese from our favorite deli (D'Ags - if you know, you know), and a variety of vegetables from Misfits Market. I opted out of salad dressing and went with Sir Kensington's Special Sauce and I have no regrets.
To be honest, I'm not sure what we seasoned the burgers with because my son was running up and down the stairs so the hubby was on burger duty while I prayed to the potato Gods that my home fries didn't burn. I'm pretty sure he seasoned the burgers, with garlic powder, salt, paprika, pepper, sometimes he throws a little cumin in there but I don't think we went that route tonight. In my opinion, it doesn't matter what you season your burgers with as long as they're seasoned with something! When I was younger I wouldn't season them with anything but a little salt and pepper and I have to say it makes a world of difference to add some extra flavor in there.
For the sweet potato home fries, I use 2-3 sweet potatoes, about a tablespoon or two of olive oil, smoked paprika, fresh parsley and salt. I didn't have any fresh parsley tonight so I used the Flavor God everything seasoning to change it up a bit (problem solved!). Sometimes I'll chop an onion up to go in it but I wasn't feeling it tonight so I took the simple route. If you don't have smoked paprika you can use regular, but the smoked paprika adds an extra dimension of flavor. Since it's smokey, it pairs nicely with the burger, especially when bacon is involved!
